The surge in domestic crude oil and natural gas liquids production is the result of technological innovation and the, until recently, sustained high-priced energy environment. Lower oil prices are conferring substantial benefits to major petroleum-consuming centers, even as they threaten the sustainability of the U.S. production platform.
